Job search diagnostic

Why no recruiter is contacting you

The answer above holds regardless of your situation. The questions below narrow it to the one cause your own answers point at, which is a different and more useful thing than a list of possible reasons.

Why am I not getting recruiter outreach?

Recruiter outreach depends on matching a keyword search, and the searches use the market's vocabulary rather than your employer's. The usual causes of no outreach at all are a profile that never states the role title anyone searches for, a skills section that omits the terms being searched, an unstated location, or working in a field where inbound sourcing is simply rare. That last one matters more than people expect: in several occupations almost nobody is sourced this way, and waiting for inbound in one of them is waiting for something that was never going to arrive.

Searches use market vocabulary
Recruiters search the title the market uses, not your internal one. A profile carrying only an internal title is invisible to those searches.
Skills fields are searched directly
Structured skills and keyword fields are queried explicitly. Skills present only in prose within role descriptions are matched less reliably.
Inbound varies enormously by field
Some occupations are heavily sourced and others almost never. Absence of outreach in a rarely-sourced field is a fact about the field.
What this page will not claim
It will not tell you how much outreach is normal. That figure differs so much by occupation and seniority that a single number would be misleading.

Source and method

RoleSprint, from the structure of the job-search process rather than from a dataset. Verified 2026-08-30. This page carries no third-party statistics, because the honest ones for this question do not exist in a citable form. What it holds is a decision tree over facts you report about your own search, and the reasoning behind each branch is stated on the page so you can disagree with it. Nothing you select is transmitted anywhere.

Narrow it down

3 questions you can answer without looking anything up. Nothing you select leaves your browser.

1. Does your profile use the job title the market uses?
2. Have you filled in a structured skills or keywords section?
3. Do people in your field commonly get approached by recruiters?

What this page will not claim

Stated here rather than in a footer, because the value of a diagnostic is entirely in knowing what it cannot see.

  • This page cannot see your profile or any recruiter's search.
  • It cannot tell you how much outreach your field typically produces.
  • Outreach is not a measure of employability, and its absence is not a verdict.

Every outcome this page can reach

Published in full so the tool cannot be a black box. If none of these describes your situation, the page is the wrong one and says so rather than forcing a fit.

Your title is not one anyone is searching for

Use the market title as your headline and put the internal one in the role description. Nothing else on the profile matters until you appear in the search.

The searchable fields are empty

Fill the skills section with the terms that appear in postings for the roles you want, keeping only the ones you could defend in an interview.

Your field may simply not be sourced this way

Stop treating inbound as a signal about you and put the time into direct applications and people you already know. In these fields that is where the roles actually come from.

You are findable, so treat inbound as a bonus

Keep the profile current and put your effort into outbound applications. Inbound will arrive irregularly and is not something to plan around.

What to do next

This page narrows one symptom. The full diagnostic looks at the whole search at once, which matters when more than one thing is wrong.
