How many jobs should you apply to?
Every answer to this question is somebody's number. Three a day, ten a day, twenty. None of them know your response rate, how long an application takes you, or how many hours you actually have. This works it out from your numbers instead.

The short answer
There is no useful universal number of jobs to apply to per day. Your realistic number depends on three things nobody writing a general answer can know: how many hours you actually have, how long one application takes you, and what your own applications have converted at so far.
Put those three together and the question answers itself. If 45 applications have produced one interview and each takes you five minutes, an interview is costing you under four hours and volume is cheap. If each takes forty minutes, that same conversion rate is costing you thirty hours per interview, and spending those hours differently starts to look sensible. Same person, same rate, opposite conclusion — which is exactly why a number written for somebody else's search cannot help you. Work out yours below.
1. Your search so far
Enter what you have actually recorded. Leave anything you did not track blank — a blank stays blank rather than being treated as a zero.

That is the part the arithmetic cannot reach. Cutting your volume only helps if the roles you keep are the ones your experience actually evidences — otherwise you have simply applied to the same wrong jobs more slowly.

Why a universal number cannot work
The advice varies from three a day to a hundred a day because the people giving it are describing their own search, not yours.
Response rates are not comparable
A rate that is normal in one field, level, and location is dire in another. Comparing yours to a published average tells you about the average, not about you.
Time per application is not fixed
The same application takes five minutes with a stored profile and forty with a written cover letter. A daily target that ignores this is really a target for a number of hours nobody named.
Hours available differ enormously
Someone searching full time and someone searching after work are being given the same number, which cannot be right for both.
Volume or selective: what the trade-off actually is
If a careful application takes four times as long as a quick one, you can send a quarter as many in the same hours — so it has to work four times as often just to end up with the same number of interviews.
That is the whole idea, and it holds however much time you have. Ten hours or a hundred, the multiplier stays the same, because the hours decide how many applications you send rather than what the trade-off between the two approaches is. Twice as long means it needs to work twice as often. Four times as long, four times as often. To be completely clear about what that is and is not: it is division, done on the numbers you type in, and it says nothing about whether spending longer will actually improve your results. It cannot know that. What it gives you is the size of the improvement you would be betting on — and once you can see that number, you can judge for yourself whether it sounds achievable.

It does not forecast whether you will get hired, and it contains no model, no benchmark, and no score.
- It does not predict employer behaviour. Every rate used in the comparison is one you typed in yourself.
- It does not compare you to an average. Published response-rate benchmarks are drawn from populations that may look nothing like your field, level, or market.
- It does not know whether tailoring will raise your rate. That depends on why you are being passed over, which is a different question from how many applications you send.
- It does not invent the numbers you did not track. A blank stays blank rather than quietly becoming a zero.
Questions about application volume
- How many jobs should I apply to per day?
- There is no correct universal number. The useful version of the question is how many applications it currently takes you to get one interview, and how many hours each one costs. If you have applied to 180 roles and had 4 interviews, that is 45 applications per interview; multiply by your own time per application and you have the real price of an interview for you. Decide from that rather than from a number written for somebody else's search.
- How many applications does it take to get an interview?
- It varies so widely by field, seniority, and market that a general figure is not useful for planning. What is useful is your own ratio, which you can calculate directly: applications submitted divided by interviews received. If you have not had an interview yet, that ratio does not exist yet, and the honest reading is simply that you have sent a given number of applications without one so far.
- Is mass applying to jobs a bad strategy?
- Not automatically. Mass applying is cheap per application, so if your time per application is genuinely low and your interview rate holds up, it can be efficient. It becomes a bad strategy when the volume is hiding a targeting problem: applying faster to roles your experience does not evidence produces more rejections, not more interviews.
- Should I spend more time on fewer applications?
- Only if the extra time raises your interview rate by more than it cuts your volume. Under a fixed time budget the break-even is exactly the ratio of time per application: an application taking four times as long must convert four times better to break even. Work out that multiplier for your own numbers before committing to the slower approach.
- Does this tool store what I enter?
- No. The calculation runs in your browser, nothing is sent to a server, nothing is written to storage, and none of your numbers are included in analytics. There is no field for a resume, an employer, or a job description, because none of that is needed to divide one number by another.
