Hardware Development Engineer

Accountabilities: • Design, develop, and document electronic circuit boards, electro-mechanical assemblies, acoustic devices, sensor systems, and related hardware in accordance with approved technical instructions, government-furnished information, designs, and engineering plans.

• Create and maintain engineering drawings, technical data packages, schematics, bills of materials, design documentation, configuration records, and other artifacts required throughout the hardware development lifecycle.

• Perform schematic capture, component selection, multi-layer PCB layout support, prototype development, and production hardware design activities.

• Support hardware configuration management by maintaining drawing packages, revision controls, engineering change documentation, hardware baselines, travelers, manufacturing records, and test documentation.

• Procure, fabricate, assemble, and integrate electronic components, subsystems, test articles, and complete hardware systems using approved engineering documentation and manufacturing procedures.

• Develop detailed fabrication, assembly, integration, and test procedures and coordinate the procurement of required materials, parts, components, and subassemblies.

• Conduct functional, integration, verification, validation, and system-level testing; troubleshoot hardware and software issues, analyze test results, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.

• Integrate embedded software, firmware, COTS software, and developed software with hardware platforms and support interoperability and laboratory integration testing.

• Prepare engineering, test, and trip reports, technical memoranda, and other program documentation while participating in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, engineering working groups, and customer briefings.

• Support field installation, deployment, troubleshooting, and operational testing following government approval, including travel to laboratories, test facilities, fleet locations, shipyards, and operational sites when required.

• Contribute to key program deliverables including developmental drawings, design documentation, test reports, and trip reports.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.

• At least three years of experience with schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout, along with practical experience in hardware testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

• Hands-on experience with electronic hardware design and development, fabrication, assembly, integration, testing, verification, and troubleshooting.

• Experience supporting hardware/software integration and system-level test activities, including embedded hardware and software interoperability.

• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, technical documentation, configuration management, bills of materials, test procedures, and hardware lifecycle processes.

• Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems, acoustic or sensor technologies, prototype and production support, and laboratory testing environments.

• Experience supporting Navy, Department of Defense, or defense acquisition programs is preferred, as is exposure to laboratory, waterfront, shipboard, or at-sea testing environments.

• Six or more years of experience working with DMEA-accredited fabrication houses is desirable, along with four years of specialized engineering experience in areas such as thermal management, signal integrity, and undersea sensor systems.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, with the capacity to identify root causes, evaluate test results, resolve technical discrepancies, and develop effective corrective actions.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, collaboration, and the ability to work effectively with engineers, technical specialists, customers, and other stakeholders.

• U.S. citizenship and an active government security clearance are required.
