Accountabilities: • Design, configure, operate, and troubleshoot large-scale, multi-vendor network environments including routers, switches, gateways, and wireless access points.
• Manage and troubleshoot network authentication environments using RADIUS, AAA, 802.1X, EAP, certificate-based authentication, captive portals, and MAC-based authentication.
• Apply advanced knowledge of routing, switching, VLANs, NAT, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, QoS, and related networking technologies.
• Diagnose complex Layer 2–7 issues using packet captures, device logs, monitoring platforms, and system telemetry.
• Support distributed network deployments through centralized configuration, monitoring, firmware management, and device lifecycle processes.
• Develop Python, Bash, network scripting, and API-based automation for provisioning, configuration, authentication, monitoring, diagnostics, and device management.
• Build tools that improve network troubleshooting and translate network behavior and vendor capabilities into requirements for software services.
• Partner with software engineers to progressively design, develop, test, and maintain production services that interact with network infrastructure.
• Work with REST APIs, Linux environments, cloud infrastructure, and containerized services while contributing to architecture and technical design discussions.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, UX, and other cross-functional teams and participate in code reviews, testing, technical discovery, and Agile/Scrum development sprints.
• Incorporate security considerations into network architecture and software development practices and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
• Maintain technical documentation, network standards, architecture guides, troubleshooting procedures, and operational runbooks while mentoring team members and sharing network expertise.
Requirements:
• 8+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, operating, and troubleshooting production IP networks.
• Strong knowledge of routing, switching, VLANs, NAT, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, QoS, and other core networking technologies.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex networking issues across Layers 2–7.
• Deep practical experience with RADIUS, AAA, 802.1X, EAP, certificate-based authentication, and related network access technologies.
• Experience supporting multiple network hardware and software vendors across routers, switches, gateways, and wireless infrastructure.
• Experience managing large fleets of network devices across multi-site or distributed environments.
• Experience with centralized configuration, monitoring, firmware management, and network device lifecycle processes.
• Strong programming and scripting experience applied to network operations and automation, particularly with Python, Bash, network scripting, and REST APIs.
• Strong Linux skills and confidence working in command-line environments.
• Genuine interest in transitioning from network-focused engineering into broader software engineering responsibilities.
• Willingness to adopt modern software development practices including version control, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and cloud technologies.
• Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote Agile environment.
• Nice-to-have experience includes large-scale Wi-Fi/WLAN deployments, high-density wireless environments, cloud-managed wireless systems, wireless RF fundamentals, professional software engineering, RESTful API development, Git, CI/CD, AWS or other major cloud platforms, infrastructure-as-code, serverless architecture, containerized services, or technologies such as C#/.NET and SQL.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field and networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CWNA, or equivalent vendor certifications are advantageous.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. The role is limited to U.S.-based candidates and does not offer visa sponsorship.
Benefits:
• Base salary of $155,000–$165,000.
• Full-time, direct-hire employment.
• 100% remote work for candidates based in the United States.
• Opportunity to develop from a senior network engineering role into a broader hybrid network and software engineering position.
• Exposure to large-scale, cloud-based technology and distributed network environments.
• Collaboration with experienced software engineers and cross-functional product and engineering teams.
• Opportunity to work with modern cloud, automation, containerization, and software development technologies.
