About this role

Accountabilities • Lead the delivery and ongoing evolution of the private-cloud product, including the infrastructure, tooling, and operational processes that enable enterprise customers to run the platform in their own cloud environments.

• Support product growth by aligning engineering priorities with business objectives, sales opportunities, and evolving customer needs.

• Partner with Field Engineering, Support, and Sales on proofs of concept, security reviews, access requirements, procurement discussions, contractual requests, and customer escalations.

• Help the team evaluate customer feedback, distinguish essential product improvements from one-off requests, and communicate technical trade-offs effectively.

• Coordinate engineering work across multiple teams, prioritizing dependencies and maintaining strong alignment between the private-cloud offering and the core SaaS platform.

• Establish feedback loops that bring useful tools and infrastructure improvements developed for private-cloud deployments back into the SaaS environment.

• Lead and develop a small, senior engineering team with deep domain knowledge, fostering knowledge sharing, sustainable ownership, and reduced reliance on individual contributors.

• Recruit, onboard, and develop additional engineers as the product and customer base expand.

• Maintain a strong focus on operational health, production readiness, incident response, and the reliability of systems operating in customer-controlled environments.

• Guide technical decisions involving infrastructure, deployment models, security constraints, version compatibility, and limited observability in customer environments.

• Apply disciplined prioritization across a broad technical scope, making clear trade-offs between competing demands and communicating what will not be pursued.

• Encourage effective use of AI-powered development tools and operational workflows, helping the team identify where they add value and where they may be inappropriate.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience as an Engineering Manager leading a highly technical, senior engineering team.

• A strong software engineering background, with a track record of technical leadership, influencing stakeholders without formal authority, and improving systems and team practices.

• Experience managing or leading a team responsible for production systems and a real on-call rotation, with a strong understanding of operational reliability.

• Experience shipping and operating software in environments where infrastructure or deployment conditions are not fully controlled, such as on-premises installations, private cloud, bring-your-own-cloud (BYOC), or managed single-tenant environments.

• Understanding of the challenges associated with version compatibility, incomplete telemetry, customer-specific infrastructure, and enterprise security restrictions.

• Working knowledge of Kubernetes and AWS , with the ability to review technical designs, ask critical questions, and contribute meaningfully to incident reviews.

• Experience working directly with enterprise customers or buyers on security questionnaires, access models, procurement requirements, escalations, and deployment constraints.

• Strong prioritization and decision-making skills, particularly when managing a small team with a broad range of technical responsibilities.

• Experience hiring, onboarding, and developing engineers in technically complex domains with steep learning curves.

• Comfort with AI development tools and a thoughtful perspective on their appropriate use.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to coordinate work across engineering teams and business functions.

Nice-to-have qualifications:

• Familiarity with observability platforms, distributed tracing, or OpenTelemetry.

• Continued interest in hands-on engineering, contributing to code, and reviewing technical implementations.

• Experience with Go, Terraform, Kafka, or large-scale data infrastructure.

• Familiarity with FedRAMP, AWS GovCloud, or compliance requirements in regulated industries.

• Experience in solutions architecture, technical consulting, deployment engineering, or other customer-facing technical roles.

Benefits

• Competitive base salary: CAD $285,000–$320,000, depending on experience and level.

• Equity participation: Generous equity opportunities through an employee-friendly stock program.

• Transparent compensation: A structured compensation approach based on role level and experience.

• Unlimited paid time off: Flexibility to take time away from work and recharge.

• Remote-first culture: A distributed work environment built around autonomy, trust, accountability, and results.

• Home office support: Stipends for home office expenses, coworking spaces, and internet access.

• Healthcare coverage: Comprehensive benefits for employees, with additional coverage available for eligible dependents.

• Paid parental leave: Up to 16 weeks of paid leave, regardless of the path to parenthood.

• Professional development: An annual development allowance to support learning and career growth.

• Work authorization: Employment sponsorship and visa transfers are not currently available. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

• Location eligibility: Hiring is currently limited to candidates residing in British Columbia, Ontario, or Quebec.

• Inclusive workplace: A commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and reasonable accommodations throughout the hiring process.
