FBMC is looking to add an experienced Director of Benefits Administration to lead and elevate our benefits administration operations. In this role, you'll oversee a high-performing team responsible for eligibility management, benefits administration, data integrity, and client support while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and exceptional service delivery. You'll collaborate across operations, account management, enrollment, and billing to ensure smooth delivery of services and scalable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of benefits administration professionals, including coordinators, specialists, and team leads.
- Establish clear performance expectations and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Partner in hiring, onboarding, coaching, and professional development efforts.
Drive Operational Excellence
- Oversee eligibility administration and related benefits processes, ensuring compliance with carrier and client requirements.
- Own the accuracy and integrity of eligibility data across administration systems and platforms.
- Ensure timely processing of eligibility transactions while meeting service-level commitments and quality standards.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance operational procedures that support consistency, efficiency, and audit readiness.
Partner Across the Organization
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex eligibility and administration issues.
- Collaborate closely with Account Management, Enrollment Operations, and Billing teams to resolve client and carrier issues.
- Support open enrollment planning and execution by ensuring accurate and reliable eligibility data.
- Partner with leadership to identify operational risks, staffing needs, and service improvements.
Lead Strategic Projects & Process Improvements
- Oversee special client projects, including acquisitions, dependent audits, billing reconciliations, FMLA audits, and enrollment audits within client HRIS systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, reduce manual processes, increase accuracy, and enhance the client experience.
- Support internal quality reviews and client audits related to benefits administration services.
- Provide leadership reporting on key performance indicators, service levels, operational trends, and team capacity.
Skills & Experience:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in employee benefits administration, eligibility administration, benefits operations, or third-party administration (TPA).
- 2+ years of experience leading, supervising, or managing a team.
- Strong knowledge of benefits administration platforms, eligibility processes, and carrier requirements.
- Familiarity with ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and applicable benefits regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and client needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a benefits brokerage, TPA, benefits outsourcing, or consulting environment.
- Knowledge of voluntary benefits products, including life, disability, accident, and critical illness plans.
- Experience leading process improvement initiatives, systems implementations, or operational transformation projects.
- Experience serving employer groups, public-sector organizations, or large client populations.
