Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic Location: Richmond, VA Job Type: Direct Hire Pay: Starting at $23.00/hour, with higher pay available depending on experience Travel: Up to 50% Job Summary We are hiring a skilled Diesel Mechanic to inspect, troubleshoot, service, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment. This role is suited for someone who can handle emergency repair situations, work independently or with a team, and travel to different locations when needed. 24/7 availability for emergency calls is required.

Key Responsibilities • Inspect equipment and identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.

• Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and corrective work.

• Troubleshoot breakdowns and respond to urgent repair needs.

• Service heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and related machinery.

• Review repair priorities and assignments with the Shop Foreman.

• Record repair details, including mileage, operating hours, dates, and work completed.

• Help maintain parts, tools, and supplies needed to reduce equipment downtime.

• Keep tools and work areas clean, organized, and safe.

• Work independently or with other mechanics to complete repairs.

• Follow applicable safety procedures and workplace requirements.

• Travel locally, out of town, or out of state for repairs, training, meetings, or other assignments.

• Perform additional mechanical and maintenance duties as needed.

Qualifications • 5+ years of hands-on maintenance and repair experience with heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, or similar machinery.

• At least 5 years of experience in two or more of the following:

• Hydraulics

• Electronics

• Small engines

• Related mechanical systems

• High school diploma or GED.

• Two years of technical/vocational training in diesel or mechanical repair, or equivalent trade, dealership, or factory training.

• Valid driver's license and good driving record.

• Heavy equipment maintenance or repair certifications are preferred.

• Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and mechanical problem-solving abilities.

• Able to prioritize emergency repairs and work effectively under pressure.

• Good communication, organization, and computer skills.

• Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Schedule & Travel • 24/7 availability required for emergency response.

• Up to 50% travel , including out-of-town and out-of-state assignments.

• Extended hours may be required based on operational needs.

Physical Requirements • Regular bending, twisting, stooping, walking, and lifting.

• Ability to work in various weather conditions.

• Ability to work extended hours when needed.

• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

• Assistance is required for items over 75 lbs. or materials that present lifting or ergonomic challenges.
