Mechanical Assembler – Overhead Cranes & Hoists Location: Ashland, VA Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Shift: 1st Shift, Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM Starting Pay: $24.00/hour, with potential for higher pay based on experience. Job Overview We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Assembler to build and install components for overhead cranes and hoists. This role involves mechanical assembly, equipment operation, and working at elevated heights in a heavy industrial environment. Important: Candidates must be comfortable climbing cranes and working approximately 15 feet above ground on OSHA-compliant equipment with appropriate safety features, including handrails and gates.
Responsibilities • Assemble mechanical parts for overhead cranes and hoists, including bearings and couplings on shafts.
• Use basic hand tools to fabricate, fit, and install components.
• Read and follow shop drawings and assembly instructions.
• Operate overhead cranes and forklifts safely.
• Apply basic mechanical skills to complete assembly tasks.
• Follow industrial safety procedures while working on the shop floor and at elevated heights.
• Handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Maintain reliable attendance and arrive on time for scheduled shifts.
• Work extended shifts and Saturdays when required.
Qualifications • Basic mechanical knowledge and hands-on assembly experience.
• Ability to read and understand shop drawings.
• Ability to operate overhead cranes and forklifts safely.
• Willingness and ability to climb cranes and work approximately 15 feet above the ground using approved safety equipment.
• Comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment.
• Ability to lift and handle up to 50 pounds.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to meet the work schedule.
Employment Details • First shift, Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM.
• Ten-hour workdays, with Saturdays as needed.
• Contract-to-hire opportunity, with potential for permanent employment after 90 days.
