About this role
Position Summary PMA Consultants is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager to provide field oversight and Design-Build contract administration for a major capital project at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). This position will support the delivery of a new systems-intensive catering and industrial facility within an active airport environment, where construction activities must be carefully coordinated with ongoing airline and airport operations. The Senior Construction Manager will oversee construction execution from early work through commissioning, operational readiness and transition, cutover, and closeout. The successful candidate will bring strong owner-side construction management experience, demonstrated knowledge of Design-Build delivery, and the ability to coordinate complex construction activities, equipment installation, technology systems, and operational interfaces. Note: This opportunity is available at multiple levels. Final placement will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience, skills, and alignment with business needs. We are committed to providing fair and equitable consideration for all applicants.
Position Responsibilities • Administer the Design-Build contract and provide owner-side oversight of construction activities and project execution.
• Coordinate the client’s direct contractors, equipment and automation vendors, and technology and security workstreams.
• Plan field staffing and coverage around active construction, utility tie-ins, testing, commissioning, and other high-risk activities, including required night, weekend, and cutover shifts.
• Monitor construction progress, quality, logistics, safety performance, and impacts to airport and airline operations.
• Review pay applications, change requests, RFIs, submittals, and schedule updates and provide recommendations for approval, rejection, or corrective action.
• Coordinate site logistics, including airfield and roadway interfaces, catering-vehicle access, laydown areas, fire access, and employee access.
• Coordinate equipment installation and construction activities with commissioning and operational readiness requirements.
• Support simulations, trial operations, and the operational cutover to help ensure a successful transition into facility operations.
• Lead punch-list activities, corrective work, record documentation, and construction closeout.
• Coordinate with project management, design, project controls, airport representatives, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve field issues and maintain project progress.
• Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications • 15+ years of construction management experience, including owner-side or owner’s representative roles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
• Demonstrated experience administering Design-Build contracts and overseeing complex construction projects.
• Experience delivering construction projects within an active airport or similarly operationally constrained environment, including an understanding of airfield access, badging, security requirements, and operational interfaces.
• Experience coordinating construction activities involving specialized equipment, industrial facilities, process systems, or complex MEP infrastructure is preferred.
• Experience with commissioning, equipment installation, turnover, and operational transition.
• Strong knowledge of construction documentation, including RFIs, submittals, pay applications, change management, schedules, and closeout requirements.
• Ability to coordinate multiple contractors, vendors, consultants, and stakeholders while maintaining project objectives and minimizing impacts to ongoing operations.
• CCM, PE, or equivalent professional credential is preferred.
Additional Requirements
Physical: Standing or sitting for long periods; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times and spend extended hours in front of a computer screen.
Cognitive: Problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; computer and software skills; and ability to read and interpret text online or in printed form.
