Position Overview SteerBridge is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to support the Modern Disability Claims program. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone early in their data engineering career to learn our claims data systems, contribute to pipeline development under the guidance of senior engineers, and build technical depth supporting a mission-critical VA program. Key Responsibilities Write clean, well-documented code to support the development, maintenance, and improvement of data pipelines. Assist with data preparation, cleansing, and basic data quality validation across claims and healthcare data sources. Support senior engineers in troubleshooting and resolving issues within existing ETL/ELT pipelines while applying standard debugging practices. Document data workflows, processes, schemas, and technical procedures as directed. Participate in code reviews and team development activities to build familiarity with coding standards, engineering practices, and collaborative workflows. Develop knowledge of the team’s domain, codebase, data schemas, and MDC data systems to support increasingly independent engineering work. Required Qualifications Eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship is required for this position under applicable federal contract requirements. Candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role, including a Public Trust clearance; an active Secret or Top Secret clearance also satisfies this requirement. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 0–3 years of experience in data engineering, software development, or a related field. Familiarity with Python and SQL. Basic understanding of, or willingness to learn, ETL/ELT concepts and cloud-based data platforms. Strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and ability to collaborate effectively while receiving feedback and mentorship from senior team members. Preferred Qualifications Coursework, internship, or project experience involving data pipelines, data engineering, or related data development. Exposure to Pandas, Git, or cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. Familiarity with healthcare, claims, or related data environments.
