Position Overview SteerBridge is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to support the Modern Disability Claims program. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone early in their software engineering career to learn full-stack development practices and contribute to features under the guidance of senior engineers. This individual will support mission-critical claims analytics and operational software.
Key Responsibilities Write clean, well-documented code to support full-stack application and feature development. Assist with implementing and testing small, well-defined user interface (UI) and API features under the guidance of senior engineers. Support senior engineers in troubleshooting and resolving software defects and technical issues. Write and maintain unit tests and participate in peer code reviews to support software quality and build familiarity with team development practices. Learn and apply established coding standards, development tools, workflows, and documentation practices. Develop familiarity with the team’s domain, codebase, and Modern Disability Claims (MDC) systems to effectively support ongoing development efforts.
Required Qualifications Eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship is required for this position under applicable federal contract requirements. Candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance; an active Secret or Top Secret security clearance also satisfies this requirement. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 0–4 years of experience in software engineering, application development, or a related field. Familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, and a modern front-end framework such as React.js, along with a basic understanding of Node.js and RESTful APIs. Familiarity with Git, version-control workflows, and fundamental software development practices. Strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and ability to collaborate effectively while receiving feedback and mentorship from senior team members.
Preferred Qualifications Coursework, internship, or project experience involving full-stack software development. Exposure to MERN or PERN stack technologies, including MongoDB, Express.js, and PostgreSQL. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or containerization technologies such as Docker. Familiarity with healthcare, claims, or other regulated data environments.
