About this role
About Objective: At Objective, we create software that makes a difference. With over 400 people and five development labs spread across Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom, Objective is a leading developer of SaaS solutions for the government. Our role:
As a Software Engineer, you’ll design, build and maintain scalable software using Java and React. Working within a collaborative capability team, you’ll contribute across the full stack while developing your technical skills with support from experienced engineers. This role reports to the Development Manager and has no people management responsibilities.
A day in your role: • Be a hands-on contributor within a capability team; designing, implementing, and testing new features across the full stack while ensuring product cohesion, stability, and scalability.
• Contribute to feature-level technical design, making sound choices and keeping complexity under control.
• Participate in code reviews, learning best practices and helping maintain code quality, standards, and maintainability.
• Support the development of cloud-native solutions with an awareness of scalability, resilience, and reliability (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Assist in debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving software defects and performance bottlenecks through optimisation techniques.
• Utilise containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, and continuous feedback processes.
• Apply best practices in quality engineering to ensure assigned code components are backed by appropriate test coverage.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools and workflows to support your day-to-day coding, learning, and delivery speed.
• Openly explore and adopt modern engineering tools introduced by the team to improve productivity.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
• Actively learn from senior team members, embracing mentorship and striving for continuous technical growth.
Your skills, experience and beyond: • At least two years of commercial software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java and experience with React.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, data structures, design patterns and version control.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms, containerisation and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with automated testing and shift-left quality practices.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
• Curiosity, adaptability and a genuine desire to learn.
If you do not tick every box, do not let that stop you. We value potential, learning agility, coachability and diverse perspectives just as much as experience, and we encourage you to apply.
At Objective, we recognise and celebrate our diverse team as pivotal to our strong employee engagement and our high-performing culture, underpinned by Our Values.
We are an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate based on any protected characteristics or on any other basis prohibited by applicable laws in the regions where we operate.
To ensure a positive experience, please inform our Talent Team of any adjustments or accommodations you may require during the recruitment process, so we can support you effectively.

RoleSprint is not the employer and not a recruiter. Applications are made on the employer’s own site and never reach us; what RoleSprint does is help you decide whether a role is worth your time and prepare for it if it is.
