About this role
Accountabilities • Serve as the primary legal advisor to People/HR teams and senior leadership on employment and workforce matters throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, separation, and executive compensation.
• Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related documents, including offer letters, employment agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, severance arrangements, and independent contractor or consultant agreements.
• Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including requirements related to wage and hour, leave, disability, discrimination, pay transparency, and remote work.
• Conduct and oversee internal workplace investigations in partnership with HR, supporting fair, timely, and legally compliant resolutions.
• Develop, update, and implement employee handbooks, HR policies, workplace guidelines, and related compliance processes across applicable jurisdictions.
• Manage outside employment litigation counsel and support responses to agency charges, employment claims, and related disputes when necessary.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and provide guidance on commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, SaaS agreements, NDAs, and master service agreements.
• Support broader corporate initiatives such as M&A integration, corporate restructuring, international expansion, and other strategic business projects.
• Identify legal and compliance risks across business operations and develop proactive, scalable solutions aligned with organizational objectives.
• Partner cross-functionally with business leaders to provide practical legal guidance and translate complex legal requirements into clear recommendations.
• Maintain a high level of discretion when handling sensitive employee, executive, corporate, and business information.
Requirements
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
• Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
• 3+ years of relevant legal experience practicing employment law and general corporate law.
• Strong knowledge of employment law, labor regulations, workplace compliance, and related legal requirements.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating standard commercial agreements.
• Familiarity with multi-state employment law considerations, particularly in remote or hybrid workplace environments.
• Prior law firm experience in an employment, labor, or corporate practice group is preferred.
• In-house legal experience within a high-growth technology, digital health, SaaS, or similarly dynamic organization is preferred.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts in clear, practical business terms.
• Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
• Excellent professional judgment, discretion, integrity, and ability to handle confidential matters.
• Self-directed and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative and pragmatic approach, with a focus on providing actionable legal advice rather than purely theoretical analysis.
