About this role

Accountabilities: You will own Android development end to end, balancing technical excellence with product judgment to deliver impactful features and continuously improve the mobile experience.

• Lead Android features from problem discovery and solution design through development, testing, release, and post-launch evaluation.

• Write idiomatic, maintainable, and well-tested Kotlin code using Jetpack Compose and the team's existing architecture.

• Shape product direction by identifying user needs, challenging assumptions, proposing simpler solutions, and raising technical constraints early.

• Translate ambiguous requests into actionable plans, asking the right questions, anticipating edge cases, and making thoughtful trade-offs to keep projects moving.

• Collaborate closely with designers, leadership, and engineers across the United States and France to transform early ideas into polished Android experiences.

• Partner with iOS, web, and backend engineers to determine where functionality should live and ensure features work effectively across platforms.

• Evaluate feature performance after release, use feedback and results to guide improvements, and maintain a strong focus on user impact.

• Help establish and improve engineering standards for code quality, testing, architecture, and product-oriented development.

• Contribute to technical decisions and product strategy while fostering a collaborative environment built on trust, learning, and psychological safety.

• Participate in twice-yearly, in-person company offsites hosted at locations across the United States.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate combines advanced Android engineering skills with product intuition, cross-platform awareness, and the ability to make sound decisions in an evolving environment.

• Several years of professional experience building and maintaining production Android applications.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, coroutines, Flow, and modern Android architecture.

• Ability to contribute credibly to at least one additional technical platform, such as web, iOS, or backend development.

• Product engineering mindset, with the ability to understand underlying user problems, challenge unclear requirements, and take responsibility for outcomes beyond implementation.

• Experience collaborating closely with designers and engineers across different platforms and disciplines.

• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

• Excellent technical judgment, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to move projects forward despite uncertainty.

• Collaborative approach, openness to alternative perspectives, and commitment to creating a supportive team environment.

• Ability to balance technical quality, delivery speed, and product impact when making implementation decisions.

• Based in the United States and able to attend twice-yearly in-person company offsites.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using AI tools to improve engineering productivity, team effectiveness, and product impact.

• Previous ownership of product direction or feature strategy rather than solely executing predefined requirements.

• Personal familiarity with the platform and enthusiasm for its mission of helping people write meaningfully for other people.

Benefits:

• Annual salary range of $165,000–$215,000 USD .

• Fully remote work environment with teammates across the United States and France.

• Healthcare premiums covered at 100% for employees and 80% for dependents.

• Generous parental leave policy.

• Mental health support through Spring Health, with additional provider options through Rula or Kaiser Mental Health Network.

• Financial wellness support through Northstar.

• Stipends for coworking, professional development, and internet access.

• One-time home office bonus.

• Unlimited paid time off and standard company holidays.

• Discounted membership.

• Meaningful influence over engineering strategy, product direction, and team culture.

• Opportunities to work with talented colleagues in an inclusive, collaborative, and product-focused environment.
