About this role

Accountabilities • Test Planning and Quality Assurance

• Define and execute comprehensive test coverage across game features, systems, and builds throughout the development lifecycle.

• Create and maintain structured test plans, test cases, and regression suites based on technical specifications and gameplay requirements.

• Perform functional, integration, regression, exploratory, and compatibility testing to ensure features meet expected quality standards.

• Identify potential technical and gameplay risks early, helping prevent issues from escalating during later development stages.

• Technical Testing and Bug Investigation

• Identify, reproduce, investigate, and document defects with clear reproduction steps, supporting evidence, severity assessments, and relevant technical details.

• Test game features and systems within Unreal Engine 5, applying a strong technical understanding of the engine to investigate issues beyond surface-level behavior.

• Collaborate directly with engineers, designers, and other team members to diagnose defects, assess their impact, and validate fixes.

• Investigate gameplay inconsistencies, system interactions, and technical failures to help improve overall game stability and performance.

• Multiplayer and Network Testing

• Test multiplayer and networked gameplay systems, identifying issues involving replication, connectivity, latency, synchronization, matchmaking, and player interactions.

• Validate gameplay behavior across different network conditions and multiplayer scenarios.

• Support internal playtests, translating observations and player feedback into actionable quality improvements.

• Help ensure multiplayer features deliver a consistent, responsive, and enjoyable experience.

• QA Processes, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement

• Maintain accurate bug-tracking workflows, QA documentation, and testing reports using Jira or similar platforms.

• Monitor defect trends, testing results, and quality metrics to identify recurring problems and areas requiring additional coverage.

• Contribute to automated testing initiatives, internal QA tools, and scripts where appropriate.

• Collaborate with production and QA leadership to prioritize defects according to severity, development milestones, and release requirements.

• Support improvements to QA processes, test efficiency, and collaboration across a distributed development team.

Requirements:

• Strong professional experience in game development QA, ideally in a Senior QA Engineer, QA Engineer, or similarly technical quality assurance role.

• Proven commercial experience with Unreal Engine 5 , gained through a shipped game or a title currently in active production.

• Solid understanding of game development pipelines and the collaboration required between engineering, design, art, production, and QA teams.

• Demonstrated experience creating, maintaining, and executing structured test plans, test cases, and regression test suites.

• Excellent bug investigation and reproduction skills, including the ability to document complex technical issues clearly and precisely.

• Working knowledge of at least one relevant scripting or programming technology, such as Python, C#, Lua, Unreal Blueprints, or Unreal scripting tools.

• Experience with QA and defect-tracking platforms such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Bugzilla.

• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows.

• Experience analyzing QA data, defect trends, and testing outcomes to identify recurring issues, quality gaps, and potential risks.

• Confidence collaborating directly with technical teams and discussing issues with engineers to support effective investigation and resolution.

• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently across multiple features and development areas.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• A proactive, detail-oriented mindset and a commitment to identifying quality issues early rather than relying solely on final-stage testing.

• Genuine enthusiasm for video games and a strong understanding of what makes gameplay polished, responsive, balanced, and enjoyable.

• Residence in Europe or a CET-compatible time zone, with sufficient overlap with Central European working hours to participate consistently in team meetings, daily collaboration, and project discussions.

The following experience would be an advantage:

• Previous experience testing multiplayer, PvP, PvE, or shooter games.

• Experience testing networked gameplay and troubleshooting replication, latency, matchmaking, or online service issues.

• Experience developing or maintaining automated testing frameworks, QA scripts, or internal testing tools.

• Familiarity with performance, load, or stress testing.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated build validation.

• Experience testing games across multiple platforms.

• Previous experience in AAA game development.

• Experience working within a fully remote, multinational game development team.

• Involvement in a game project across multiple production stages, from early development through launch.

• An active interest in competitive and multiplayer gaming.

Benefits:

• Remote-first flexibility: Work remotely from the Netherlands or another eligible location within Europe, subject to the role's time-zone requirements.

• Meaningful ownership: Take an active role in shaping game quality and influencing the development of an ambitious multiplayer title.

• Creative collaboration: Work closely with engineers, designers, artists, and production specialists in a cross-disciplinary environment.

• International team: Collaborate with talented professionals across different locations, bringing diverse perspectives and expertise to game development.

• Technical development: Gain hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5, multiplayer systems, advanced QA workflows, and emerging testing practices.

• Professional autonomy: Contribute independently, take responsibility for quality outcomes, and help improve development processes.

• Impact on player experience: Help deliver polished, reliable, and engaging gameplay that meets high standards of performance and enjoyment.

• Collaborative culture: Join a friendly, open, and communication-focused team that values talent, accountability, and shared goals.
