Software Developer 3 (Control Room Simulator)

Accountabilities • Develop, test, maintain, and operate software supporting the control room simulator and other related software projects.

• Build production-ready software solutions in accordance with established development procedures, processes, and quality standards.

• Maintain configuration control for software products and ensure development activities follow established practices.

• Investigate software defects using issue-tracking systems and implement effective solutions.

• Analyze recurring errors and performance issues to identify common root causes and prevent future problems.

• Apply sound software engineering and operational principles when resolving technical issues and implementing improvements.

• Collaborate with team members to review proposed solutions, validate technical approaches, and ensure deliverables meet quality expectations.

• Support server/client environments and customer-facing products with a focus on reliability and high availability.

• Perform hardware setup and maintenance, including installing computers and monitors and connecting required equipment.

• Provide technical support for simulator environments and assist with resolving issues across software and hardware components.

• Work toward long-term technical and project objectives with appropriate guidance while exercising independent judgment.

• Communicate technical concepts, progress, issues, and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Follow applicable safety and quality assurance requirements and contribute to a strong culture of safe, reliable, and high-quality engineering practices.

• Travel locally or nationally when required for technical support or business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Programming, Computer Science, or another relevant technical discipline from an accredited institution.

• Candidates with other engineering degrees, such as Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering, may be considered with 5+ years of demonstrable professional software development experience and relevant software deliverables.

• At least 5 years of professional software development experience.

• Experience supporting and maintaining high-uptime, customer-facing software products is preferred.

• Working knowledge of an integrated development environment such as Visual Studio and a revision control system such as Git.

• Experience with GitLab, C#, SQL, WPF, networking fundamentals, and distributed systems is preferred.

• Strong understanding of data structures, software architecture, and techniques for optimizing system efficiency.

• Strong object-oriented programming fundamentals.

• Ability to troubleshoot complex software problems, evaluate information, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.

• Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage project timelines, deadlines, priorities, and competing demands.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present and demonstrate work to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build trust and effective working relationships across teams.

• Adaptable and comfortable working in an environment where priorities, requirements, and technical challenges may change.

• Demonstrated dependability, accountability, and willingness to seek feedback and continuously improve.

• Commitment to safety, quality assurance, applicable regulations, standards, and established engineering practices.

• Ability to learn new technical concepts and job functions quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment.

• Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 requirements.

Benefits

• Target annual compensation range of $108,908–$131,441 .

• Full annual pay range of $97,642–$152,722 .

• Compensation is determined based on factors including relevant job-related skills, professional experience, education, training, and internal equity.
