About this role

Accountabilities: • Pre-Sales Engineering and Proposals: Partner with Account Managers and sales teams to understand customer requirements, support strategic project opportunities, address complex technical challenges, and provide accurate labor estimates and material requirements for proposals.

• System Design and Documentation: Develop detailed broadcast and audiovisual system designs, including bills of materials, conceptual block diagrams, infrastructure plans, scopes of work, and comprehensive technical documentation.

• Infrastructure Planning: Identify power, data, conduit, networking, and other infrastructure requirements, coordinating with general contractors and relevant stakeholders to ensure technical feasibility.

• Risk Assessment and Design Validation: Identify and communicate project risks, site conditions, scheduling requirements, and dependencies. Review pre-construction documentation and validate designs for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project objectives.

• Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with vendors, architects, consultants, contractors, project managers, and field teams to ensure designs meet technical specifications and project constraints.

• Implementation Support: Act as the design authority when needed, providing technical guidance to project teams during implementation and helping resolve complex engineering challenges.

• Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Review designs developed by junior and mid-level engineers, provide constructive feedback, and promote adherence to engineering standards and best practices.

• Standards and Process Improvement: Develop and maintain design standards packages for large and repeat customers, share technical knowledge, and contribute to improving engineering workflows and team capabilities.

• Project Communication: Provide weekly updates to the Engineering Manager and participate in meetings outside local business hours approximately 20 times per year.

• Travel and Flexibility: Travel to domestic and international job sites as required and adapt to evolving project priorities and organizational needs.

Requirements:

• Industry Experience: Strong understanding of the broadcast and audiovisual industries, including industry trends, standards, business practices, and customer expectations.

• Broadcast System Expertise: Advanced knowledge of broadcast and AV signal flows from acquisition to transmission, including HD/UHD, analog and digital formats, cameras, routers, switchers, and signal-processing equipment.

• Networking Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of IP networking and architecture, including AVoIP, TCP/IP, multicast, VLANs, and Quality of Service (QoS).

• Audio/Video over IP Standards: Experience with SMPTE 2110, AES67, NDI, and other relevant Audio/Video over IP technologies and standards.

• Broadcast Software and Automation: Familiarity with broadcast automation systems and Media Asset Management (MAM) software, including content ingestion, storage, playback, and on-air or digital distribution workflows.

• Technical Standards and Infrastructure: Knowledge of AVIXA and ANSI/TIA standards, as well as common infrastructure requirements for power, data, conduit, and integrated broadcast systems.

• Design Tools: Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and Bluebeam Revu.

• Certifications: AVIXA CTS-D certification is required, along with AVIXA ANP certification. Cisco CCNA or a similar certification may be considered in place of ANP. Relevant audio and digital signal processing certifications, such as Yamaha, Calrec, AVID, Biamp, Q-SYS, BSS, Extron, or Shure, are also relevant.

• Leadership and Mentorship: Ability to guide junior and mid-level engineers, review complex designs, share technical expertise, and promote quality and consistency across engineering deliverables.

• Problem-Solving and Communication: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, independent risk management, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Business Acumen and Initiative: Ability to balance customer expectations, technical feasibility, project constraints, and business goals while staying current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Formal education in electronics, engineering, or a related field is preferred.

• Professional Experience: Seven or more years of experience in broadcast and audiovisual system design or integration is preferred.

• Enterprise Project Experience: Experience with large-scale broadcast and AV projects, multidisciplinary coordination, and enterprise broadcast or video conferencing solutions is an advantage. Familiarity with platforms and equipment from manufacturers such as Ross Video, Grass Valley, Sony, Panasonic, Evertz, LAWO, Telestream, Cobalt, and Vizrt is beneficial.

• Process Improvement: A demonstrated ability to improve design standards, workflows, and engineering processes is preferred.
