JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Lead Ignition SCADA Engineer with 5+ years of experience in design, development, and deployment and support of Ignition SCADA solutions and with a background in Controls Engineering.

Based in Waterbury, VT, you will take ownership of core SCADA systems for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Microgrid integrations. This role will leverage and expand the features and functionality of existing systems while supporting new projects through design, commissioning and long-term support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ignition SCADA Engineer (Lead Role)

- Design and configure Ignition Perspective views leveraging established standards and reusable components.

- Integrate Edge Devices: Connect SEL RTACs, Allen-Bradley PLCs, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and Power Conversion Systems (PCS) using OPC-UA, Modbus/TCP, and DNP3.

- Configure and manage alarms, trends, and reports: Configure historical logging, transaction groups, and automated performance reports.

- Optimize Databases: Design and maintain relational databases like Microsoft SQL for historical analytics.

- Receive and configure SCADA servers and perform or support project commissioning

- Create and maintain technical SCADA documentation including As-Built configurations and O&M.

Controls Engineering (Secondary Role)

- Provide controls system design, programming, and commissioning for grid scale Energy Storage systems.

- Work closely with clients to translate customer requirements into a project specification document to clearly define scope and deliverables.

- Develop and define communications datapoint lists for the customer and SCADA interface.

- Write and execute Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) plans, generally here in our Waterbury, VT production facility, and On-Site Acceptance Testing (OSAT) at customer sites.

- Assist with design and review of electrical/controls design drawings and equipment lists.

- Perform programming of PLC and RTAC logic controllers using IEC 61131 (ST, FBD, LD).

- Troubleshoot the electrical, controls and AC/DC inverter power systems and coordinate modifications or corrective actions with engineering and production.

- Assist with the ongoing efforts to standardize logic modules and data structures while identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and coding standardization.

- Produce technical documentation and user manuals.

- Up to 20% Travel may be required to perform onsite project commissioning and to support and troubleshoot existing installations.

- Maintain quality and safety standards.

REPORTS TO

- This position will report to the Controls Engineering Manager.

Qualifications

- Ignition SCADA:

- Perspective: Deep knowledge of building modern responsive views, utilizing CSS, flex containers, and creating highly reusable templates/Utech components.

- Proficiency in Python (Jython) for advanced event handling, gateway scripts, and custom functionality.

- Experience setting up Ignition Gateways, networks, redundancy, and optimizing tag structures.

- Expertise in Historical Logging, Transaction Groups, and the Ignition Reporting Module

- Ability to configure and image Ignition SCADA servers and edge gateways.

- A degree in engineering is required, with an emphasis on control, electrical, or software engineering

- 2 to 4 years of work experience with design and programming of PLCs is preferred.

- Ability to debug and troubleshoot analog and digital PLC I/O circuits and automated processes.

- Strong electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

- Experience with OT protocols including OPC-UA, Modbus/TCP, DNP3.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Excel and Word.

- Experience with electrical power systems, grid scale inverters or battery energy storage systems is a plus.

- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Strong written and interpersonal skills.

- Must be self-motivated and a great team worker.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Ability to verbally communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and co-workers.

- Hearing and vision within normal ranges, with or without corrective lenses or an assisted hearing device.

- Good manual dexterity is required for occasional wiring, assembly, and din-rail device installation.

- Some lifting is expected; occasional exertion of up to 25 lbs. of force may be required.

- Secondary job requirements include travel with fieldwork which can consist of hiking, construction work, moving heavy objects, and wearing PPE for specific tasks.
