About this role
ABOUT THE TEAM
Our Finance team keeps Sift's financial operations accurate, controlled, and ready to scale as the business grows. We own the month-end close, financial reporting, and the systems and processes behind them, and we partner closely with FP&A, Revenue, and business teams across the company to make sure the numbers tell the right story.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team. This role supports AP, core general ledger, close, and compliance activities and is a strong growth path toward a Senior Accountant position.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Prepare and post journal entries for non-revenue areas such as prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts (cash, prepaids, accrued liabilities, fixed assets, etc.) and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring deadlines and accuracy standards are met.
- Post daily cash transactions and perform bank reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Assist with fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
- Own accounts payable end to end and support expense-related accounting as needed.
- Help maintain and improve internal controls and documentation.
- Assist with the preparation of schedules and support for external audits and internal reviews.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate recurring accounting processes.
- Experience leveraging and customizing AI/LLM tools (e.g., Gemenia, Claude) for day-to-day work, and general fluency with AI-assisted workflows.
- Partner cross-functionally with FP&A and other Accounting team members on ad hoc requests and analysis.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 4–6 years of relevant accounting experience (public accounting or industry).
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and general ledger accounting.
- Experience with international accounting and IFRS reporting standards is a plus.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP) and strong Excel skills.
- Experience with Expense Software (e.g., Navan, Expensify, Brex).
- Experience with Tax Software (e.g., Avalara, Anrok).
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
- Self-starter who takes ownership and is eager to grow into a Senior Accountant role.
