JOB OVERVIEW

Serve Robotics is hiring a Senior EHS Specialist to own and advance our environmental health and safety programs across all domestic and international locations. This is a senior individual contributor role requiring deep expertise across workplace safety, regulatory compliance, machinery and equipment safety, and EHS education, with direct responsibility for ensuring our teams integrate safety into their daily work.

This role partners closely with Operations, Facilities, Hardware, and site leadership to build a proactive safety culture, maintain rigorous compliance across California and federal regulatory frameworks, and extend our EHS standards to our growing international footprint. The ideal candidate brings 5–7 years of hands-on EHS experience in a technical operations environment, a genuine passion for safety education, and the credibility to influence how safety is practiced on the floor every day.

JOB DUTIES

- Own the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of EHS policies, procedures, and programs across all Serve facilities and operational sites

- Lead routine and targeted facility inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments, identifying hazards, evaluating controls, and driving corrective actions to closure

- Build and maintain a safety assurance function that provides consistent, structured oversight across all sites, ensuring programs are not just written but actively practiced

- Partner with Operations to embed safety standards into daily workflows, shift routines, and standard operating procedures

- Develop site-specific safety initiatives and continuous improvement projects that measurably reduce risk over time

- Track and report on safety performance metrics, including audit findings, corrective action status, incident rates, and near miss trends, to site leadership and senior management

- Own safety standards for all machinery, equipment, and workbench operations across Serve's depot and lab environments

- Conduct machinery hazard assessments and ensure appropriate guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and safe operating procedures are in place and followed

- Establish and enforce soldering safety standards, including ventilation requirements, PPE specifications, and safe handling of flux, solder, and related materials

- Define PPE requirements by task, environment, and hazard type, ensuring the right protective equipment is available, properly maintained, and consistently used

- Evaluate new equipment and tools before deployment, conducting safety reviews and ensuring safe work procedures are established before operational use begins

- Partner with Hardware and Operations teams to integrate safety standards into equipment design, depot layout, and workstation configuration

- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations, with expertise in California-specific requirements including Cal/OSHA, Cal/EPA, and local fire and environmental codes

- Maintain all required EHS documentation, records, permits, and regulatory reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission

- Lead or support regulatory inspections from OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and local authorities, preparing the organization, managing the inspection process, and driving corrective actions on any findings

- Stay current on changes to EHS regulations, industry standards, and best practices, proactively updating programs and communicating changes to relevant stakeholders before they become compliance issues

- Ensure proper storage, labeling, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials including batteries, chemicals, solvents, and electronic waste in accordance with all applicable regulations

- Design, develop, and deliver EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics including general safety orientation, machinery and equipment safety, hazardous materials handling, PPE use, emergency procedures, and job-specific hazard awareness

- Build training that is engaging, practical, and retention-focused, going beyond compliance checkbox training to genuinely change how people think about and practice safety

- Develop role-specific safety education that meets employees where they are, from depot technicians and field agents to remote supervisors and office staff

- Track training completion, assess effectiveness, and continuously improve content based on incident trends, audit findings, and employee feedback

- Lead investigations of workplace injuries, near misses, property damage incidents, and environmental events, tracking trends

- Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions that address root causes rather than symptoms

- Maintain accurate incident records and OSHA recordkeeping in full compliance with regulatory requirements

- Develop, maintain, and test emergency response plans for all Serve facilities, including fire evacuation, severe weather, hazardous material release, medical emergencies, and AQI-related operational protocols

- Coordinate and lead emergency drills, evaluating effectiveness, documenting outcomes, and driving improvements

- Ensure all emergency equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and accessible at all times across every site

- Partner with Facilities and Operations on business continuity planning to minimize operational disruption in the event of an emergency

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, & SKILLS

- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience

- 5–7 years of direct, hands-on EHS experience in a technical operations environment: robotics, manufacturing, warehousing, electronics assembly, or similar

- Expertise in California EHS regulations

- Strong working knowledge of federal OSHA standards

- Demonstrated experience with machinery safety, workbench operations, soldering environments, and associated PPE requirements

- Experience developing and owning an EHS audit program, including audit design, execution, finding management, and corrective action verification

- Proven track record as an EHS educator, designing and delivering training that changes behavior, not just achieves compliance

- Experience partnering with operations teams to integrate safety into daily workflows and standard operating procedures

- Strong incident investigation skills, including root cause analysis using structured methodologies

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to influence at all levels of the organization
